As part of BRAC’s SHIKHA Project, a two-day Basic Psychosocial Training for Teachers was successfully conducted on 3–4 August 2026 at Begum Sufia Model High School in Kaliakair Upazila, Gazipur. The training was conducted by Bangladesh Psychiatric Care Ltd. (BPCL), with the participation of 10 teachers from 5 schools across the upazila. Mr. Shawkat Akbar Khan, Secondary Education Officer of Kaliakair Upazila, was also present at the event. The training aimed to strengthen teachers’ capacity to provide psychosocial support to students, recognize their mental and emotional needs, offer appropriate initial support, and facilitate referrals to relevant services when necessary. Another key objective was to help create a safe, supportive, and mentally healthy learning environment where students can learn, communicate, and develop with greater confidence and wellbeing.

Such capacity-building initiatives under the SHIKHA Project play an important role in strengthening school-based psychosocial support and promoting the mental health, safety, and overall development of students.
