Prof Dr Md Faruk Hossain is a leading Bangladeshi psychiatrist and academic, currently serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Enam Medical College since 2024. He completed his MBBS in 2001 from Mymensingh Medical College and began his career with the National Heart Foundation in 2002 as a Research Assistant. After gaining GMC registration in the United Kingdom in 2006, he worked for icddr,b as a Project Research Physician for some time. Then he advanced his career through four years of postgraduate training in psychiatry at NIMH and BMU. He also completed a course on Psychotherapy and Counselling from the Department of Psychiatry, BMU.
He earned the MCPS in 2011 and the FCPS in 2016, solidifying his standing as a specialist in mental health. His academic appointments include key roles at Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College (2012–2018) and Enam Medical College, where he joined as Associate Professor in 2018.
Prof Hossain has contributed nationally as a working group member for BAP guidelines on the management of Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorders, Anxiety Disorders and Depressive Disorders, and remains active in professional associations and psychiatric education across Bangladesh.
