Professor Dr. Md. Shah Alam is now working as an honorary professor in the department of Psychiatry, Popular Medical College and Hospital, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. He graduated from Sher E Bangla Medical College Barishal in November’1980 (6th Batch, SBMC). He Completed his FCPS (Psychiatry) In January, 1989 from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS). He has worked in different faculties of different academic institutions. He was the Senior Consultant in Narayanganj 200 beded Hospital up to 1991. Then he joined Chattagram Medical College as Assistant Professor and later was promoted to Associate Professor and Head there until 2001. He has also worked as Associate Professor and Head of Psychiatry in Dhaka Medical college. Later he joined as Professor and Head of Psychiatry in Faridpur Medical College and Chattagram Medical College. Finally, he retired from Government job in January, 2015 from National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Dhaka; where he was Head of Psychotherapy and Clinical Psychology. Then he joined Popular Medical College as Professor and Head of Psychiatry. After successful completion of 35 years of service, he is now an honorary faculty of Popular Medical College. Participated in lots of national and international seminars and symposia. Interested in cross cultural variation of presentation and management of psychiatric cases. Devoted to psychotherapy, behavioral and occupational methods of management in psychiatry. Adult psychiatry, organic and neuro- psychiatry are also his focus of interest. Skilled in managing substance abuse and related disorders and personality disorders.
